How can parents sign their child up for our Girl Meets Code Programme?
The first step to getting started is for parents to register their interest online. You can share all of the information with parents at your school by using the school promotional material: School promotion materials – Download here
Who can apply to our Girl Meets Code Programme?
This programme is for girls aged 12-16 who are interested in learning about the world of technology and coding. Please note that this programme does not require any previous coding experience as the girls will be guided through the content during the workshops.
What does the Girl Meets Code Programme include?
The programme will run for the Summer and includes:
- 15 hours of engagement
- Online where pupils will work together to think of ways to use technology to solve everyday problems and ultimately learn how much fun coding can be when used to bring ideas to life! We’ll be looking at a broad range of digital topics within creative coding.
- Team building and group activities that will help improve communication and teamwork skills. By working on challenging tasks, pupils will build their confidence and improve their leadership skills.
- Building a network and meeting role models and mentors from the technology sector. Pupils will get the chance to ask questions about careers in technology, which will help to create an awareness of the different careers in technology.
Can parents apply for more than one child?
Yes, parents can sign up for more than one child on the programme as long as the pupil is between the ages of 12 and 16.
Where will the workshops take place?
The programme consists of online workshops.
Are there any fees?
This year’s Summer programme is fully funded by London Youth and there is no cost for pupils from your school to participate.
Is this open to pupils that attend independent schools?
Yes, as long as the pupil is between the ages of 12 and 16.
Is there any admin work that you need from the school?
Yes, but it’s very minimal. We only ask schools to share promotional material with parents and pupils. The parents sign up directly with us and once we have their information, we will send them all the important information needed to join the programme.
Is there a video we can share with parents and pupils?
Yes, we recommend sharing the video at the top of this page during assemblies and form periods. Alternatively, the promotional material includes links to the Girl Meets Code programme page for parents to find out more and watch the video.
Any further recommendations?
- We recommend that you send reminder emails and SMS messages to families no later than 1 week before the application deadline – this will allow them to complete their application to start the programme in time.
- We have a few enrolment weeks leading up to the deadline, so the sooner parents apply to enrol their child in the programme the more likely they are to receive an offer to join the programme.
